House Sparrow Egg

House Sparrow Egg

Hey, today we found an bird egg. My cat brought it to the front door. Here is a picture of the egg:
It's already hatching!
Here is the identical picture we found:
I guess it's a house sparrow?
Isn't it amazing! A house sparrow, wait, what is a house sparrow? Here is what I searched and found out about it!
The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. A small bird, it has a typical length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a mass of 24–39.5 g (0.85–1.39 oz). Females and young birds are coloured pale brown and grey, and males have brighter black, white, and brown markings. One of about 25 species in the genus Passer, the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean region, and much of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introductions to many regions, including parts of Australia, Africa, and the Americas, make it the most widely distributed wild bird.
The house sparrow is strongly associated with human habitations, and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, and deserts away from human development. It feeds mostly on the seeds of grains and weeds, but it is an opportunistic eater and commonly eats insects and many other foods. Its predators include domestic cats, hawks, owls, and many other predatory birds and mammals.
Because of its numbers, ubiquity, and association with human settlements, the house sparrow is culturally prominent. It is extensively, and usually unsuccessfully, persecuted as an agricultural pest, but it has also often been kept as a pet, as well as being a food item and a symbol of lust and sexual potency and commonness and vulgarity. Though it is widespread and abundant, its numbers have declined in some areas. The animal's conservation status is listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List.

Just so you know I didn't write all that, but it is still interesting!
Okay bye!

Let's Reflect!

Let's Reflect!

In Rimu Class we have had a lot of fun days. But sadly this year is slowly coming to an end, not many people that have been blogging will be blogging next year as they have to leave, I have to leave, but for now let's reflect on this year!
Term 1
We did a lot of cleaning and sorting things out. In Term 1 we had a teacher called Miss Barr who stayed the whole term! We also had Stacy for the term! There was also year six camp at Hanmer Springs and had all these fun activities. We also did swimming lessons across the road from our school. We had to practise our mihis before next term going to the marae.
Term 2
The highlight of Term 2 was going to Jellie Park for a fun day. It was so much fun. We went to the marae which was exciting but lots of people were nervous. We had Numeracy and Literacy interchange. We had Miss Tapuke. I didn't really meet her though because I was sick most of the time.
Term 3
Term 3 we had a ski trip at Mount Hutt. It was super exciting for everyone that went! We also had a girl called Chloe teach us about healthy food. Two days later we went to Pak'n'save and had to write down healthy food and unhealthy food. Another thing we did was we had a man called Levi and he taught us a dance then one night we performed and I must say we were probably the best. Another thing we did was we got these little gardens and in the holidays we took them home then brought them back on Monday.
Term 4
We have only been at school for 3 days so we haven't done much but my cousins joined Gilberthorpe School so that's pretty cool!
My Goals
  1. Get better at math especially division
  2. Get better at spelling
I'm looking forward to
Spending my last Term of Primary School with my friends and being at Gilberthorpe School.
Finishing art.
Meeting the new Kiwi Can leader.
Everything that we will do in the future.

Trip To Seddon!

Trip To Seddon!

Hey everyone today I got back home from a long trip from Seddon! So this man was dropping of his daughter at the Christchurch airport (Yes we know him) We got to catch a ride with him all the way to Seddon. We decided to go on the Thursday and left the next day! But there is always a down side to things mine was my dad couldn't come. I was super sad but excited as I have never been out of Christchurch or been without dad for so long. When we got there we had to wait to set our beds up but when we did I was so excited. This is quite gross, but next year they are going to eat there pet lamb for Christmas. It was fun we went to the river down there drive way and went to the beach. Luckily they were both in walking distant. Anyways I had so much fun and can't wait to go back there next holidays.
Thanks for reading bye!

Marc Ryan The Cyclist Comes To Gilberthorpe School...

Marc Ryan The Cyclist Comes To Gilberthorpe School...

Hey everyone, I am back again with a blog post but today's post is about two things. The first thing you can already see which is Marc Ryan also known as dream came to my school today. The second thing is today is the last day of the term 3. I am super sad about no school for 2 weeks but we all need a break at sometime in our life.

Marc Ryan

Okay so today we had Marc Ryan come to our school to talk about the Olympics. He has competed in to Olympics. Today he bought his two bronze Olympic medals. Fun Fact: Medals are very heavy and get heaver if they are bigger! Everybody got to ask him questions and touch the medals, both the medals. It was so exciting to me because I've never touched, healed or seen a medal.

Last Day Of The School

Okay today is the last day of school and we are finishing of work and planting seeds. We have been super busy term, but a really exciting term as well.
Okay Bye!!

Wonderful Winter Wonderland

Wonderful Winter Wonderland

We are learning to make a screencastify. A screencastify is when you read your story and then it will show you if you make it show you some how I can't explain it. The story is about going to Mt Hutt and skiing. It is also about what happened before we went skiing! I have made a screencastify on my writing about going skiing at Mt Hutt! Enjoy it because I know I did!
I think mine is amazing because the writing is really long although I could do more work!
I also had fun making it! (Sorry if it's not good quality)
N.S (Next Step): Use a more complicated vocabulary and take my time on the writing and probably give more information about what happened!

Food For Thought

Food For Thought

Today we had Chloe from the heart foundation come in. The reason she came in was to teach us about what is healthy and what isn't healthy for when we go to Pak'n'save on Thursday. Today we learnt about diabetes and what goes where on the food pyramid. On Wednesday we will learn how to read labels and be able to tell what is healthy and what isn't. Here is a picture of the food pyramid. I can't wait for Thursday because it will be so much fun going down to Pak'n'save. She came in for about 1/2 hours and we talked about Thursday. We also had our own food pyramid and put things in where we thought it would go and it didn't matter if it was wrong because it would be helpful to teach us more.i can't wait for next time and when we go to Pak'n'save. Here is a picture of the food pyramid.

The Day After.......

The Day After...........The Performance

Last night was the night! The big night when we performed in front of around 500 people watching our school. Here are some pictures before we left school!

We took a lot! I think we all look really beautiful and we all couldn't wait there were 1 million feelings in the room at the same time! I also have some picture's from the performance for later on in the post! First we got our outfits on, then we got makeup and our hair done! Here are pictures from during the performance!

So for the performance I had to lead a line onto the stage which was pretty cool I guess! Also we were singing a song so I got to start it which was kind of scary. I had a lot of fun and wish I could do it again, but next year if my sister does it I will go and see her. But it will be pretty hard to bet our performance I bet!
